We have enjoyed your hiking guide a lot, and made many marvelous tours around the island.
Some situations have changed however.
Route 12: Sao Lourenco
The last part to the Pico do Furado has improved a lot, steps have been constructed and the ascent is now much easier.
Route 35: Boca da Corrida -> Curral das Freiras.
The last part, from Faja Escura to Curral das Freiras, cannot be made any more.
The path is blocked by a rock slide, and the bridge of the Curral river has colllapsed.
Apparently, this is the case for a longer time, it does not look like it will be fixed any time soon.

I used your very good walking guide for Madeira and have one or two observations to make.
Walk 2 To the Cabo Girao
We started this walk at the Cabo Girao and walked for about half an hour but we were disappointed with the unpleasantness of it due to litter etc.so we turned back to the Cabo.
Walk28 From Pico do Ariero to Pico Rivo.
We followed your guide by taking the right fork. Nobody else came on this route because many had been told it was not very safe and secure. We would agree. It is not the nicest of routes. The path is not well maintained and some of the safety ropes are broken down. This should be emphasised more in the book. The return journey was fine and could be recommended for both ways.
Walk 32
We failed to find the start of this one.
We did enjoy the walking overall. Thanks to your book.

We walked a week in May at Madeira and used the Rother-book as well(auflage
2001).
We like the map on the back of the book and the little maps that come with
every walk.
We walked the tours 6, 8 combined with 15, 12, 18, 19, 25 combined with 26, 28
combined with 27,and tour 33.
tour 6:
We thought this was an easy start to feel Madeira at the first day. But we
never thought that this walk was this steep. You say it is steep, but we never
saw a step this steep! But that was not all... the last descent of the walk
through the village Candelaria is more steep than the streets in San Francisco
(and they are steep!). We had to stop every six steps we made. I would like to
give this walk a black note, not red.
The shop at the top of the climb is still there, but you must go left before
the shop and not after (that way is going to another levada)
tour 8:
We walked the levada dos Tornos from Palheiro Ferreiro until Lombo Grande
because we liked the tunnels (use a torch!).
We don't know why this walk is black labeled! (maybe the first part??), but we
think it is a blue labeled levada-walk.
tour 12:
You should save this walk for a bad weather day. Why? We did this walk when it
was raining all over Madeira, but the island Laurenco was sunny and warm! The
first part of the walk was a little wet, what gave us a new experience: the
clay was sticking at your feet, so at last you had clay-shoes that were at
least 5 kilo's per shoe...
tour 18:
You should not do this in the morning because then all the tourist buses come
and let the tourist walk this little walk.
tour 19:
The bus leaves at 10.00u from Funchal, so the start in Ribeiro Frio is at
11.30u. We think it is a 12 km walk: 4 hours. You can not walk the wrong way,
we think, so it's better to let the book in the backpack and enjoy the
beautiful enviroment.
tour 25 and 26:
you should start at queimadas because then you have more time to walk to the
caldeiro inferno.
the drive to queimadas is an adventure: very steep and small route, not to many
stops to pass a car from the other side.
The tunnels are spectacular, because you can not see the end of the tunnel and
definitely you need your torch. The tunnels are also low and small.
Caldeiro inferno is a walk for the serious mountain walker. No fences makes
this a thrilling walk (weird: the caldeiro verne has some deeper ravens but
because of the fence you don't think it is scary).
tour 27 and 28:
we did this tour with a group because you need a taxi at the start and the end
of the walk.
We didn't understand why it is a black and red tour. We think the part of
arieiro to ruivo is a red one, and the part from ruivo to teixeira is blue
(very easy, not that nice).
The tunnels underneath the Pico das Torres are very wet, but not slippery.
tour 33:
One of the most beautiful tours on the island. There is no tourist in this
neighborhood until Curral das Freiras.
The Quinta Mis Muchachos is a very old quinta (this is more likely to find this
quinta). We walked straight through the Eukalyptusbush (no new terraces).
The Boca dos Namorados is stunning! The walk goes zigzagging down to Lombo
Chao.
Maybe it was a better option to take the bus and stop with the Levada do
Curral, to walk this for a while. The walk down in Lombo Chao and up to Curral
das Freiras is mostly over the street (and we don't like that).
It's nice to do this walk at Sunday, because there is almost every Sunday feast
at Curral, so you can, just like us, see people in Madeira-clothes dancing and
eating.
We like your guide very much. Maybe there is one thing that we miss in the
book: grafical hights-statistics (height profile). Maybe a tip for new versions?
and maybe for the future: GPS-points?

Hi,
I have just discovered your wonderful walking guides- absolutely superb-excellently produced, superb format, detailed maps and descriptions – the best!
I can't wait to go on holiday somewhere else to buy another one – have you done any on the UK?
Best wishes,
